I have been a home-based educator for over 3 years and I love working with children. I have 8 grandchildren of my own and I was previously a qualified vet nurse.
I am available Monday-Friday, 6.30am-5.45pm.
I currently have space on a Monday and Friday for under or over-2-year-olds.
I strongly believe in positive affirmation and use the skills I have gained in my work-life to read body language and help interpret any communication challenges. I believe in praising and encouraging children to repeat positive behaviour, giving them attention during these times. I believe that manners are very important, they cost nothing and they are an investment. It is important to me that the children feel loved and settled and that my environment is a home away from home.
I live in Grasmere, Invercargill.
My home is large and has a lovely, sunny and warm conservatory, we enjoy lots of resources and the children have the opportunity to play freely. I also support children with the space to run about in all weather.
Children enjoy taking positive risks and a favourite activity is riding bikes up and down a ramp we have in the garden, they love listening to the sound of the equipment on the wood and they enjoy experimenting as their confidence grows.
The children have the added advantage of interacting with my mother - Nanna, who lives with me. This is a bonus relationship for children who don't have grandparents at home. It provides an additional layer of respect and whānau.
I hold the National Certificate in Early Childhood (Level 4) and I hold a current first-aid certificate.
