Kia ora, I’m Dimity – a proud mum of three adult children and an adoring Nana to two beautiful grandchildren. I live just a short drive from Inglewood, close to Waitoriki School and only 10 minutes from Lepperton School.
My passion for working with children began when I was young, since then (for 30 years) I’ve had experience teaching in a range of early childhood settings. From large corporate childcare, privately owned kindergarten, and even some years teaching in a Steiner kindergarten, my journey has been rich and varied.
Most recently, I was a part-time Visiting Teacher with Tiny Nation, supporting educators and children throughout 2024. I absolutely LOVE home-based childcare and being a part of this wonderful community!
I am available Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
I believe every child is truly unique, with their own gifts, talents, and desire to learn, through natural curiosity and wonder. My role as a teacher is a privilege – to nurture, guide, and support children during this vital and transformational stage of development.
I am passionate about child-led play because it is holistic. It supports so many aspects of developmental growth - socially, emotionally and physically. I love that children build resilience, creativity and problem-solving skills through play, while they work together, use their imaginations and follow their interests.
From what I understand, in the first seven years, children are primarily developing through the right side of the brain – learning through their senses, resonating with nature, and living in the moment. I believe allowing children time and space to explore and play in the natural world is invaluable, as this foundation instills connection and underpins all later left-brain academic learning.
I prioritise building warm, caring relationships with children and whānau, because it helps foster wellbeing, trust and sense of belonging. Once children feel seen, heard and loved for who they are, they feel free to truly play, learn and express themselves. Using Te Whāriki as a living document, I plan for children's holistic growth, interests and needs in partnership with whānau, while considering their aspirations / wishes for their child.
My Cottage is a cosy, safe and warm home overlooking the countryside. Outdoors, children can explore nature, climb, balance, slide, dig in the sandpit, or create in the mud kitchen. There’s a sheltered verandah for reading and relaxing, and plenty of space for seasonal activities, like gardening or farm walks.
Inside, you’ll find a calm, homely atmosphere with natural, open-ended resources that spark play and creativity – wooden blocks, handmade toys, knitted animals, dolls, and art materials. We enjoy story time, music, baking, preparing morning tea together, and sharing meals around the table.
Our days follow a gentle rhythm, often inspired by the seasons – from finding tadpoles in spring to making lanterns for Matariki in winter, enjoying summer picnics, and collecting autumn leaves. We also connect with our wider Tiny Nation friends through regular visits and social experiences.
