I have been an early childhood educator for 20 plus years on the Kapiti Coast. I was a teacher and then a Head Teacher at Raumati Beach Kindergarten for 11 years and a teacher at two childcare centres in Raumati Beach for the past 5 years. I am excited to begin my next career opportunity as a home-based educator.
I am available Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:30pm.
I currently have a spaces Monday - Friday, for an under and over-2-year-old.
My philosophy incorporates key elements from various theories that guide my teaching practice and sing to me. I believe children are competent and autonomous of their own learning and behaviour. They are communicators and should be respected as individuals who learn within a social context. Responsive caregiving is a key element of my teaching. I believe in encouraging children to wonder, to be curious, to question, to research, to show empathy, manaakitanga, and respect for others and the environment. I particularly enjoy the natural world and see the environment as the third teacher. I have a recycle, reuse, repurpose, conserve ethos.
I strongly value relationships and working in partnership with whanau which is why I believe in my mokopuna being with their Nanee. I am committed to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and support this document through te reo, waiata, tikanga, and Māori legends. I value the importance of movement and music for young children and especially perceptual-motor skills.
I live in Raumati South on the beautiful Kāpiti Coast in Wellington.
I have a home surrounded by trees and gardens and a large area behind my section of grass and bush with walks that can be explored.
Although I do not have a lot of climbing. I like to take the children to the park to climb and play most days. I provide art and craft activities, music and movement and plenty of children's books for reading. I have a toy room with lots of dramatic play equipment and puzzles.
I have a Bachelor of Education (teaching) Early Childhood and I have recently completed an Incredible Years course for Teachers and Level One Te Reo. I have a current first-aid certificate.
