I’m Mum to 5 children ranging in age from 28-5 years old. I have always enjoyed working with young children, I started by being involved with Playcentre with all my children. I have worked as a Playcentre supervisor, a teacher aide for new entrants at my children’s school, a reliever in an ECE centre and previously as a home-based educator when my older children were younger.
I am available Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm
I currently have space Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, for an under-2-year-old and over 2-year-old from 9am - 3pm.
I’m a strong believer in the value of free play, especially without interruption, in a calm, unhurried environment. I love to observe the imaginative play that comes from using natural resources. Also, the fun that comes from messy play, crafts and painting. Children can learn so much through play and each child is an individual with their own strengths and knowledge. They have the right to feel safe and cared for, to know they have a place where they are valued and loved. I try to reflect that in my caregiving.
I live in South Hill, Oamaru, in a sunny, warm home.
We enjoy a safe front yard with a variety of ride-on vehicles, a trampoline and a swing hidden within a large tree which provides a nice shady spot on warm summer days. I have a wide variety of books freely available to the children and I love to read to them. I also have plenty of toys, arts and crafts materials, and playdough. I am focused on increasing my range of natural play resources over time.
My home is close to a large park where we can go to run around and roll down the hills. Also, a new subdivision, which provides plenty to look at as we walk by. I enjoy taking children to our local library and playgroups when available.
I have Course 1 and 2 New Zealand Playcentre Certificates. I am currently studying for the New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 4). I also hold a current first aid certificate.
