About Me

I am a Canadian-Kiwi and have spent much of my life between the two countries. I am a proud member of the Rainbow community and one of the inaugural members of a dragon boat team breaking gender binaries in sport. I am also Type 1 diabetic, giving me personal insight into managing serious health conditions.

Most of my work experience has been in outdoor pursuits, including hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, camping, kayaking, and skiing. I am currently on a journey to learn about indigenous cultures and traditional ways of life, both in North America and Aotearoa, which will shape my curriculum. I’ve always enjoyed the give-and-take of education, appreciating the unique perspectives tamariki bring to learning.

My Philosophy

We cannot predict what we will need to know tomorrow, but we can support tamariki in learning how to learn and think critically about the world. I believe deeply in the transformative power of nature and its benefits for everyone.

My teaching approach emphasises the use of loose parts over single-purpose toys, encouraging children to explore their personal interests and physical development. Tamariki are supported to take control of their learning, make mistakes, be messy, and feel safe expressing and regulating their emotions, learning in their own time.

My Environment

Your child will enjoy excursions to natural places such as Bottle Lake Forest, Travis Wetlands, the beach, and the Red Zone, as well as visits to libraries and museums. At home, we have a vegetable garden, grape vines, peach trees, a hammock, and a firepit outdoors, along with a cosy fireplace indoors.

Activities include foraging, baking, planting, reading books, and enjoying music. We have a Labrador named Biscuit who loves children but can be given her own space if she gets too excited. Our cat, Snowball, prefers quiet company.

My Training

Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology
Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (ECE)
Current Advanced First Aid certification
