I was born and raised under the slopes of Mt. Taranaki on a dairy farm in a small rural town where my values and morals are grounded. I value contributing to the community. I also enjoy being engaged in many other activities that fuel my passion for sports, crafts, music and people. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and encourage creative expression. I have been working as an ECE teacher for the past 10 years while taking breaks to raise my 3 beautiful daughters. I am a highly motivated, enthusiastic, dedicated, warm and caring person who wants all children to be successful learners and work to create an environment with an atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging, and adaptive to the varied needs of children. I am committed to professional ethics, standards of practice and the care and education of young children.
I am available Monday-Thursday, 7am-7pm.
I am a motivated teacher and believe that I have a significant role to play in helping children develop self-understanding, self-esteem and self-reliance that will help them become keen and effective learners, and enjoy respectful and productive relationships with their peers and others in their lives.
I believe the environment is the 3rd teacher and can help children learn through play that is sparked by their interests. By expanding children’s interests within an environment that has ranging and diverse activities, children can engage in skills such as literacy, numeracy, physical education, and creativity amongst many more. This approach also allows children to experience the joy, fun, and excitement of learning new things.
I believe in taking a holistic view of children and their education and this involves developing an open, responsive, respectful and equal partnership with parents, family, and whānau. Close collaboration with families of each child helps me to better understand where the child comes from, their skill level in certain areas, what is happening in the child’s life, and will help to plan goals for future learning and development.
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a teacher to help children meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites the sharing of ideas. I, as the teacher, will act as a guide, allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and promote respect for all things and all people.
I am based in Bell Block, New Plymouth. My home is a warm and welcoming environment. Outside there are swings and a slide along with a sandpit and mud kitchen. There is plenty of grass to run around on with fruit trees and a veggie garden too. Peter Rabbit is also playing outside ready for a cuddle.
Inside there are plenty of toys to choose from including a heuristic play basket, a play kitchen, blocks, musical instruments and so much more. I offer activities such as baking, painting, play dough and crafting.
I have a BA in Psychology and Education, a Graduate Diploma in Arts, Majoring in Social Work, a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and a current St John’s First-Aid Certificate.
