About Me

I have been a home-based educator since 1999, creating a safe and welcoming space where children can learn and grow. With over 20 years of experience, I love helping young learners explore, build confidence, and develop new skills.

Family is very important to me. I have been married to my husband, Nick, for 40 years, and we have five adult daughters and 11 grandchildren. I also enjoy organising events for children, whānau, and the wider home-based community, bringing families together through fun activities. In my free time, I love baking and decorating cakes for special occasions, which often becomes a fun learning experience for the children in my care.

My Philosophy

I believe children learn best through play and hands-on experiences. My goal is to create a caring and supportive environment where they feel safe, valued, and free to explore their interests.

Home-based care is special because it blends learning with everyday life. I focus on building strong relationships, encouraging creativity, and helping children grow socially, emotionally, and mentally. Every child is unique, and I enjoy finding ways to inspire and challenge them in a way that fits their needs.

My Environment

My home is set up to encourage creativity, exploration, and learning through play. Children can take part in activities like baking, messy play, sensory experiences, and outdoor adventures. I provide plenty of opportunities for creative play, such as dress-ups, music, movement, and storytelling.

I also love taking learning beyond the home. We go on nature walks, visit shops, and attend playgroups, giving children a chance to explore the world around them. These outings help them build confidence, social skills, and real-world understanding in a fun and supportive way.

My Training

I am currently working towards a Level 4 Certificate in Early Childhood Education through NZSE

Family Testimonials

"Highly recommended home-based care"TN_BrandIcons-06

We have had the pleasure of having our kids in Tarn’s care from September 2020 until January 2023. In that time Tarn has given our kids her all. Her caring and nurturing nature, support, and understanding of each child and their needs and abilities is second to none. Tarn has treated our kids like her own and has made us feel like family. Tarn went above and beyond what we expected from any educator. Our kids have experienced so many things and have learnt and grown into the most amazing wee humans. We are so grateful for Tarn and the fact that our kids got to spend their first few years of life being taught and educated by her. Her place is always immaculate, and she has so many amazing resources for our Tamariki. We would highly recommend Tarn to anyone looking at putting their wee one into home-based care.
